Our testimony on Sunday the 18th

Once in a sermon, I told a story about Corrie ten Boom who was at Ravensbruck Concentration Camp trying to teach everyone to be thankful in all circumstances.  Her sister Betsie objected.  Although she can be thankful for many things, she just cannot thank God for the fleas in her cabin for they made everyone’s life miserable.

Eventually Betsie & others realized that the reason why the Nazi soldiers didn’t enter or bother them in their cabin, especially when they were holding Bible Study was because of those fleas.

This is the wisdom of God and He is always sovereign over our circumstances.

The past couple weeks have been quite busy attending OMF leaders meeting up in Taipei (I was nominated to be a part of the leadership for one year), meeting more people in our new area, hosting prayer meetings & fellowship meals, sending Ethan off to college while preparing for our testimony at our local Taiwanese church.  Of course, there was also a major typhoon that came our way last week.  In our area trees got uprooted, rice fields were flooded, houses and stores were flooded or had water leak & wind damage, many were without water or electricity for a few days.  We personally were thankful that the only disrupt we experienced was a power outage for 18 hours and we were safe indoors.

I believe it is when we are stretched & challenged that God’s gracious hand working in our lives becomes more visible.  His presence has always been there, but in our weaknesses, His grace becomes greater in power & visibility thus transforming everything within us into praise!  There are moments when I am down and discouraged, but God graciously allows me to come back up.  I thank Him for the encouragement He gives through you who I am constantly reminded that without your prayers and support we couldn’t be here.  I come to a place where I can experience peace & joy.  Peace & joy that come from knowing that God is always in control of our lives & ministry.

Therefore, we have also been busy praising God’s goodness, wisdom & power!  We couldn’t contain it.  We are deeply thankful to the Lord for so many things, for bringing us to where missionaries are needed, for allowing us to meet missionaries who are faithfully & humbly serving in the harvest field, and for helping us to be with and learn from a very special local Taiwanese church.  We are very excited as we pray together for future works here in Gangshan (岡山).

On Sunday (9/18) Jeanette & I got to share our testimony in Mandarin at our local Taiwanese Church.  We were so grateful to the Lord for the opportunity to share how He has been and still is active in our lives, and for the progress we’ve made in speaking Mandarin, something that 2 years ago seemed like an impossibility.  God is so gracious!  We had a blessed time.  We also have to thank our church for their encouragement & willingness to listen to our story despite limitations in our language.

Next month, we have 2 more opportunities to share about missions & how God has been working in our lives.  Also, we will be going into a local elementary school to share Bible stories.  Please pray for us that we will prepare well, that our Mandarin will be spoken clearly, but most importantly God’s voice will resonate in the hearts of the people (adults & children) we encounter.

Thank you everyone for your prayers & partnership!
