After we moved to Taiwan and as we were praying for more specific direction in ministry, God has been placing a burden in our hearts for young people from working class families. The connections we were making were mainly younger people due to various reasons ranging from desire to practice English to affinity toward Korean pop culture. It is our hope & prayer that God will open doors for us to meet & minister to those who will become disciples of Christ and then go on to influence in their workplace, their friends & their family. We are grateful to the Lord for the growing clarity He has been giving as we pray for our works here in Taiwan.
In order for the gospel to be shared effectively & embraced, a relationship that is based on trust has to be established first. This takes time. Unless the listener is convinced that we deeply care about them, why should they listen? I realize that understanding, conviction & acceptance of who Jesus is & what He has done for us is the work of the Holy Spirit from the beginning to the end. Still those who carry the message of the cross have the responsibility to enter all relationships with the love of the Lord & respect for the people. We believers who are called by Christ to make disciples of all nations must strive to emulate the love that He has demonstrated – love that is sacrificial. Sacrificial love has the power to bring down walls & move hearts.
It is also our conviction that love must be accompanied by God’s truth for it is through the truth of God empowered by the Spirit that saves & does the work of transformation in us. I am often saddened by the growing shift nowadays from focusing on what God is saying in the Bible to focusing on “our experiences”. But God’s Word cannot be replaced or take the second seat to any spiritual experiences or methodologies, no matter how popular.
It is our prayer that we will always strive to present the truth of Christ in its purest form. For the Word of God is living & has the power to save & set people free from whatever binds them.
Therefore Apostle Paul states, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile (Romans 1:16).”
May the Church in these last days love truthfully and proclaim God’s truth lovingly.
