Dear missions partners,

I wanted to use this week’s post to update you on what’s been going on in our lives, and also to ask for your prayers.

At the beginning of this month, our church (Tampa Korean United Methodist Church) made a move to a bigger & better campus. It is an ideal place for future growth & expansion. As a result of the move, English congregation has already doubled in size! There are still lots to be done to get settled in, but it’s truly an exciting & hopeful time!

I do ask for your prayers as our church goes through this transitional period that it will lead us to a complete dependence on God & bring us closer to one another.

In regards to missions to Taiwan, things have been quite hectic as we move closer to the date of our departure from Tampa. There is so much to be done. From getting rid of our stuff to tying any loose ends in U.S. to completing all necessary documents & requirements for our move to Taiwan.

This week, we have to start the process of enrolling our children to their school in Taichung. It is called Morrison Academy. It’s a Christian International School, which means that the language used at the school is English. The school also follows the American education system, which will make our children’s transition to college back in the states easier when the time comes. Students who attend Morrison are missionary children & children whose families are there in Taiwan for business. And surprisingly there are also Taiwanese children who were born in the States because their parents were getting their education in American universities, which makes them U.S. citizens. Therefore attending a Christian International School will prepare them well if they choose to come to U.S. for school or work. It seems like everyone wants to come to America.

We also need to purchase the airline tickets this week. It does make me a little bit anxious since we do not have the visas to Taiwan yet because we have to wait until the middle of May to process it. The reason is because once you get the visa, you only have 3 months to enter Taiwan, and since we are entering Taiwan on August 2-4, we have to wait until the 3 month window arrives.

We are leaving for Southeast Asia in July, but we need to first go to Singapore where the OMF International headquarters is for a 3-1/2 week training before we’re sent to Taiwan. The training will involve all 5 members of our family.

As we are going through this period of preparation, the pattern has been that there are a lot of things that are just up in the air & beyond our control, which makes me nervous since I’m the type who likes to finish a task before moving to the next one.

All this translates to a lot of time in prayers because the only One who can make everything fall in the right place is our Lord. I’m sure that this same pattern will continue in Taiwan & throughout life as well, which is really a blessing since it reminds us constantly that although we do not have any control because having control is an illusion, WE KNOW THE ONE WHO DOES.

We would truly appreciate you praying for our visa process to be done by the end of May. Also find people who can use our furniture, kitchen stuff & etc. God is so amazing that our subdivision is having a community garage sale this Saturday. We’re hoping that we will be able to get rid of most of the stuff. If those who are living in Tampa area need anything, please check with us, and if we have it, it’s yours!

As we are approaching our departure from Tampa & move to SE Asia, I have to admit that there are a lot of mixed emotions: excitement & fear, hope & doubt, peace & restlessness, and joy & sadness. But one thing is for sure. It is through this wide spectrum of emotions that we get to experience the One who is our good & faithful Shepherd.

Let me end with the meditation of Psalm 23.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your
goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
